FA Thailand Launches Women’s Football Strategy:
“From Grassroots to Greatness” — Reinforcing the Road to Brazil 2027
The Football Association of Thailand (FA Thailand) has officially launched its strategic plan for women’s football under the clear vision of “From Grassroots to Greatness” to reinforce the goal and commitment of leading the “Chaba Kaew” (Thailand Women’s National Team) back to the FIFA Women’s World Cup stage once again, with the campaign “Road to Brazil 2027.”
FA Thailand has been selected by both the AFC and UEFA to participate in the “AFC–UEFA Women’s Football Programme,” as one of only five countries in Asia, alongside Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, and Lebanon. This significant initiative has led to the development of a strategic plan aimed at systematically and tangibly improving women’s football in Thailand.
The launch event was joined by distinguished guests including:
- Mr. Karan Mirchandani, FIFA Member Associations Development Manager (FIFA Regional Office – Kuala Lumpur),
- Mr. Simon Toselli, FIFA Technical Expert – Women's Football,
- Ms. Pema Tshering, Women’s Football Development Expert,
- Mr. Amir Assokan Abdullah, Head of Special Projects Unit – Member Association Division,
- Ms. Bai Lili, AFC Head of Women’s Football – Technical Division, and
- Mr. Futoshi Ikeda, Head Coach of the Thailand Women’s National Team.
Mr. Yuttana Yimgarund, Vice President of FA Thailand, stated:
“On behalf of FA Thailand, I would like to express how women’s football is one of the top priorities for our President, Madam Nualphan Lamsam. Although women’s football may not yet enjoy the same popularity as men’s football, it holds great importance. It has brought pride to the Thai people on the world stage, and it is also a major focus for FIFA, UEFA, and the AFC at all levels.”
“You may wonder why this press conference is being held today. June 12, 2015, exactly 10 years ago, was a historic day for Thai women’s football. On that day, the Thailand Women’s National Team defeated Ivory Coast 3-2 in their first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup win at the 2015 tournament in Canada. We later qualified again for the 2019 World Cup in France, during which our current President served as the Team Manager.”
“Today marks another milestone for women’s football in Thailand and signaling our intention to move forward with a clear strategy, goals, and tangible outcomes.”
“We are truly honored to receive support from both AFC and UEFA under the "AFC–UEFA Women’s Football Programme." Thailand is proud to be one of five Asian countries alongside Vietnam, Chinese Taipei, Lebanon, and Uzbekistan developing this strategic roadmap for women’s football for the period 2025–2029. The guiding vision, "From Grassroots to Greatness," aims to lay a strong foundation for sustainable development, with the key target being "Road to Brazil 2027" which bringing the Thai women’s national team back to the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“On this occasion, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to FIFA, UEFA, and the AFC for their continuous support of FA Thailand. We also thank everyone involved at both policy and operational levels including staff, coaches, players, clubs, schools, and the public who are working to advance Thai women’s football.”
“We believe this strategic plan will serve as a strong and stable foundation for Thai women’s football, propelling it forward across generations, today and into the future, with bringing pride to Thai football fans once again on the global stage.”
As for the next step, the Thailand women’s national team will travel to Chiang Mai for a training camp starting on 13 June 2025 in preparation for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers.
The fixtures are as follows:
- 26 June: vs Timor-Leste
- 29 June: vs Iraq
- 2 July: vs Mongolia
- 5 July: vs India
